This UV light was designed for those that wanted to catch some rays but didn't want to leave the comforts of their own home. And to be honest, this isn't all that surprising. After all, tanning beds are still a thing today, and we know that those can cause cancer. It must have also made any room you put it in unbearably warm. Just imagine setting up a giant industrial UV light in your living. It would have been easier to just go outside to get a tan.
