Household Items That We're Washing Too Much, Or Way Too Little

Don't Worry About That Thick Winter Coat

If you live in the Northeastern or Northwestern US, Canada, or Northern Europe, you know winter means one thing: lots of snow. Cold weather is just part of life in these regions, and a good winter coat is essential to stay warm. But here’s a tip—don’t stress about washing it too often

Believe it or not, the snow can help keep it clean! Washing your coat frequently can damage the fabric, causing tears or loosening the inner lining, which reduces its insulation. Plus, your coat doesn’t directly touch your skin (hopefully!), so the inside stays relatively clean unless you’ve been wearing it over dirty clothes. Why risk ruining a perfectly good jacket? Instead, spot-clean small stains and air it out occasionally. A well-maintained coat will last longer and keep you warmer. After all, isn’t that what winter gear is all about?
