Many people have caused a catwalk stir, but no one quite like Björk! The wonderfully eccentric Icelandic singer wore a swan dress to the 73rd Academy Awards in 2001 and then pretended to lay an egg on the red carpet. Designed by Macedonian designer Marjan Pejoski, her frock was "a full-body stocking that was covered with a giant swan whose neck wrapped around her with its head and beak resting on her breasts."

Commentators talked about the dress for weeks, with some claiming the stunt was "the year's fashion faux pas ." That said, in 2008, the UK's Daily Telegraph ranked the dress the ninth most-iconic red carpet dress of all time.
